Dealing With the Monday Blues?

Having the Monday blues? I know, I know…most people dread this day. I have some recommendations to make it more enjoyable.

Let me give you some background about me before I start getting into this post, so you can understand where I am coming from. I am a 24-year-old finishing up on my Bachelor’s degree at Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville. I have two jobs, going to school full-time, and I write blogs for TSSI on the side. Sounds exhausting, right? I don’t tend to have the Monday blues though because I start my day off like this.


Here is how to feel better on your Monday’s or any day of the week!

WATER
My first recommendation that I always start my day with is drinking a glass of water (at least 8-12 oz). This starts boosting your metabolism, starts detoxing your body, and gets you ready for your day.

BREAKFAST
My ideal breakfast is a clean breakfast. No processed foods and if there are, it is 100% whole wheat.

MEAL CHOICE #1
1 slice of whole wheat toast, half of an avocado, and 1 over-easy egg. (DO DIE FOR)

MEAL CHOICE #2
1 slice of whole wheat toast, slice up 1 banana, 2-3 tsp of peanut butter, and sprinkle 1-2 tsp of chia seeds

MEAL CHOICE #3
For those who do not like to eat in the morning. Make a peanut butter and banana smoothie – blend together 2 tsp of peanut butter, 1 frozen banana, a little milk/milk substitute or plain greek yogurt, and some honey. Or make a veggie/fruit smoothie. 1 cup of frozen spinach (greens), ½ cup of frozen fruit, 1-2 tsp of honey, and water. If you do not use frozen fruits or veggies, you’ll have to add ice.

Those are just a few ideas that I do. Starting your day with a glass of water and breakfast helps brain function, gets your body working and ready for your day. Food fuels your body and is there to help you function. You will be in a happier mood and it may surprise you how your Mondays turn out! If you may poor breakfast choices, your mood will not be as good as others! Also, a little reminder, pack some healthy snacks to keep the good vibe going throughout your day.

BREAKS

Some people have highly stressful jobs, some people have a lot on their plate which stresses them out as well. Add on if you’re having a bad case of the Monday blues, you’ll still dislike Monday’s. But when work gets too much for you, take a step back for a few minutes and collect yourself. Ask your boss if you can step outside of the office, go walk around the building, do something just to collect your cool. If you just stick with the stress all day, there are no advantages of that to you mentally or physically. Help your body handle the stress by taking a step back. This could be tied into listening to your favorite song or music.
